How we started..
Elyan has studied pattern making and clothing production, selling her own designs and sewing custom pieces for the last 20 years. In addition, she also created work for Spotlight's catalogue for several years, made contributions to magazines and has also developed ideas as an "Influencer" for Brother.
Her excitement as a 7 year old at Nana's knee-lever Singer, clearly influencing her passion for fabric later on, having won many sashes in Fashions on the Field competitions across NSW and Vic, also taking out awards for millinery she's created to compete in the Melbourne Royal Show's "Art, Craft & Cookery" competition.

When Elyan became the mother of 2 sons, she realised there was a market for colourful, unisex clothing for parents who wanted more than dinosaurs and trucks for their boys, or pink and florals for their girls.
Combining that with trying to create less waste, as the fashion industry is one of the World's worst for pollution, she came up with the idea of a unique little label she could create herself, using all the fabric she already had, scraps she's hoarded, and the various vintage bits and bobs she regularly salvages.

(And where did the name come from?
While a lot of mothers start a little business and name it after their children, "Not Barry!!" was a phrase shouted regularly as Elyan sat heavily pregnant and her husband kept suggesting "Barry" as an option!)
